People Incorporated Financial Services Awarded $180,590 from USDA to support safe and clean well water systems in rural areas

January 09, 2013

With federal funding, People Incorporated will provide approximately 20 low-to-moderate income homeowners in Southwest and Northern Shenandoah Valley regions of Virginia resources to repair or replace water well systems

Abingdon, Virginia – People Incorporated is pleased to announce that it has received a $180,590 Household Water Well System (HWWS) grant from the Rural Utilities Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development to help struggling families access safe and potable drinking water. People Incorporated will use the funding to establish a revolving loan fund to provide low interest loans for low-to-moderate income rural homeowners to construct, repair or replace household water well systems for existing homes.

“Many of our clients have little discretionary income to make necessary but costly home improvements, including new water well systems,” stated Rob Goldsmith, President and CEO of People Incorporated. “This revolving loan fund offers low interest rates and flexible terms which ensure that more families will gain access to clean, safe drinking water at a manageable cost.”

Many rural areas in People Incorporated’s service area still do not have access to public water systems. This project will provide loans of up to $11,000 to assist eligible homeowners in Buchanan, Clarke, Dickenson, Frederick, Page, Russell, Shenandoah, Warren and Washington counties as well as the City of Bristol, Virginia to access clean, safe water through a functioning water well system. The HWWS program is available through People Incorporated’s Indoor Plumbing Repair/Housing Rehab program in both its Abingdon and Woodstock offices.  Homeowners may contact Doug Canody in the Abingdon office (276) 619-2236 and Gwen Puryear in the Woodstock office (540) 459-6432 to determine income eligibility and learn other details about program qualifications.
