People Incorporated Honored with Master Innovator Award

Local Community Action Agency recognized by National Community Action Partnership

September 7, 2011
Abingdon, Virginia –
People Incorporated was competitively selected as the winner of the first annual Master Innovator Award for Community Economic Development by the Community Action Partnership.  The Community Action Partnership is the national membership organization representing over 1,000 Community Action Agencies throughout the United States.  People Incorporated won this award in recognition of its outstanding work in promoting community development as a core strategy in promoting economic security and reducing poverty.

“Community Action Agencies across our nation are leading efforts to revitalize communities, encourage entrepreneurship, build individual wealth, stimulate and leverage community investment, promote energy efficiency and create green jobs,” said Stacy Flowers, the Partnership’s Director of Community Economic Development. “People Incorporated earned this award by demonstrating that its community economic development work produces results that revitalize communities, and serves as a prime example for Community Action Agencies looking to raise the bar in innovative Community Economic Development.”

People Incorporated received its award at the Partnership’s national convention in San Francisco on August 25th.  People Incorporated was recognized for its role as developer and owner of Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway and for its investment and efforts in support of the Grundy Town Center project, which anchors the revitalization of the Town of Grundy in Buchanan County Virginia.

“We are extremely proud of these projects because of their far reaching and long lasting economic impact and their ability to leverage additional investment throughout Southwest Virginia,” said Rob Goldsmith, President and CEO of People Incorporated. “With the Heartwood and Grundy Town Center projects, we were able to utilize our community economic development expertise to bring significant new investment, resources, and services to the region to create jobs and help restructure and revitalize our local economies.  Our staff and board members are pleased that People Incorporated’s Community Economic Development programs are considered among the best in the country.”

The National Master Innovator Award is sponsored by 84 Lumber Company.
